WitW – ToL5 update: approaching 20,000+ words!

Has everyone figured out what WitW stands for yet?  If not, hint:  you can find it as preorder at Barnes & Noble, Kobo, Apple’s iBookstore, and a few others.  I’m working on making it a preorder for Kindle.  KDP Select (Kindle) requires a cover of some sort before I can do that, so I have to come up with some type of generic cover first.  As soon as I do I’ll release it as a preorder and then let everyone know.

How’s everyone doing?  Are you having a great week so far?  The temps are heating up here in AZ, but it isn’t too bad.  Yet.  In less than a month I’m expecting to have the AC on 24/7.  *sigh*   That’s what you get when you live in the desert.

I have a new Goodreads giveaway going.  It’s for a signed print copy of A Portal for Your Thoughts (Tales of Lentari #3).  This particular giveaway is open to residents of the US only, I’m afraid.  I’m trying to cut down on shipping expenses since the simple act of shipping one book overseas usually results in a bill that’s four times the worth of the book.  Crazy, I know.  And sorry to exclude some of you readers.  Please don’t hold it against me.  🙂

Here’s the giveaway details…

I’m still looking into the idea of getting personalized bookplates.  I’ve had quite a few readers want to know if they could purchase autographed copies of the books from me for their own collections.  As I was mentioning earlier, shipping in the US (Media Mail) is quite reasonable.  Get it outside the US and it becomes downright deplorable, so I’ve been looking into other options.  Another author friend of mine was saying the same thing and he went that route.  It’s working quite well so I’m seeing how feasible it is.

Remember, if you haven’t already, sign up for the newsletter in order to get the link to the free Tales of Lentari short story.  Hunt for Red Oskorlisk falls between the events of Lost City and Something Wyverian This Way Comes.   Wow.  Had to think about that.  Is that right?   I had to look it up on my iPad.  Yep, that’s right.   Also, if you haven’t already, please consider leaving me a review wherever you purchased the book.  Nothing will help an indie author out more than seeing positive reviews on Amazon, or Barnes & Noble, or Kobo, etc.  If you liked it, or hated it, I can take it.  🙂

I still think it’s incredible that I’ve published 7 books and am actively working on my 8th.  Plans for the 9th are also underway and I am actively working on that story, too.  Yep.  Two stories at the same time.  I will warn you, though, ToL6 is going to be a little slower as this will be my first collaboration!  That’s right.  Another person is helping me write this one.  Who?  Well…  you’re gonna have to wait and see!!!

That’s all for now.  Feel free to friend me on Facebook or Instagram, or just leave me a message here.  Ask a question.  I will answer.  I promise!

Movie Trivia!

Strap on thy thinking caps, fellow movie buffs.  Ye are about to show the entire world just how much useless movie knowledge ye have crammed away in thy brain!  What be the prize for answering my fiendishly clever trivia questions?  I will tell thee!   Up for grabs is another signed print copy of A Portal for Your Thoughts (Tales of Lentari #3) as soon as it is officially released.  How soon is that?  We be gettin’ closer, matey!

Wow.  Don’t know where that came from.  Sorry.  Anyway, depending how many people play, if there’s only one person who can answer all three questions correctly then congrats!  You’ll be the winner!  If more that one person plays AND gets all the answers right (no Googling!!!) then I’ll compile a list of the winners and have everyone’s favorite corgi select who will be the proud owner of my latest novel.  Sound fair?  Are you ready to play?  Here we go!

Movie trivia time – comedy edition:

#1:  According to Up Periscope, what tattoo does Cmdr. Dodge have on a certain portion of his anatomy?

#2:  What is the name of the property Fletch inherits from his dead aunt in Fletch Lives?

#3:  What is the name of Striker’s friend who was killed in the war that he feels personally responsible for in the slapstick comedy Airplane!?

Remember, try to avoid looking at other answers (here’s hoping a lot of people play!) and no Googling!  Good luck and have fun!  Don’t forget to sign up for the newsletter!  Another issue is going out today and I’m previewing the title graphics for APfYT!

New contest!

I’ve started a new Goodreads contest, which should be active in the next day or so.  I just have to wait until they approve it.  Which book?  This time it’s going to be Insurrection (Bakkian Chronicles #2).  It’s the book with Peanut & Pryllan on the cover, sniffing noses.   Quite frankly, it’s one of my favorite covers.

Anyway, the giveaway will be open to the following countries:  USA, Canada, UK, Ireland, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Australia, and a new country, Sweden!  Good to luck to all who enter!

Useless movie trivia!

Oddly enough I was thinking about writing another post with more useless movie trivia and then a fan actually requested it.  So, put on ye olde thinking caps and let’s see how good you guys are!

Movie trivia:

  1. What’s the name of the funky-looking knife in The Shadow?  You all know the one.  It growls and has a mean looking face!
  2. What is the name of Inigo Montoya’s father?  My wife asked me this one a while back and I almost said I don’t know.  Inigo mentions it once in the movie.
  3. What is the name of the underwater drilling rig in The Abyss?  Xtra credit:  what was the name of the surface ship that its umbilical was connected to?

Good luck!  Have fun and no Googling!!!   🙂

Want to read Tales of Lentari #2.5?

Hello my fellow citizens of Lentari!  As promised, I have posted my third short story, The Hunt for Red Oskorlisk, free of charge to whoever would like to read it.  Oh, what’s this?  The post is password protected?  Well, whatever might the password be?

What could it be?  Well, since everyone did such a fantastic job translating the runes to learn what the title of the next full length novel in the Tales of Lentari series will be, I hereby propose another challenge:

The password

The password

You might recognize a few letters from the book title.  What does this word mean?   The only thing I’ll say is that this unique word shows up in one of the books.  Good luck!

Tales of Lentari #3’s Title Reveal!

Hello all you fans of Lentari!  I thank you for your patience with me as I hurry to get ToL3 released as soon as possible.  Let’s just say that I’m rapidly approaching the home stretch.  My plan is, and has always been, to release it before the end of the year.

Now, with that being said, I have an announcement to make.  It’s time to release the title!  Curious as to what the 3rd title in my Tales of Lentari series will be?  Well, wonder no more.  The title is…

Not so fast, honorary citizens of Lentari.  You didn’t think I’d make it that easy, did you?  Let’s have a little contest!  What I have here is the title of the book, written in Lentarian dwarven runes.  They were created by the multi-talented artist Brett Gable, of Brett David Gable Illustrations.  Fans of the series will remember that Brett was the one who illustrated Lost City for me.  If you haven’t already, please head over to his Facebook page using the link above and hit the Like button.  He’s a very talented artist that deserves some recognition for all his hard work.

Let’s sweeten the pot.  The first person to send me an email with the correct guess for the title will win a hand-painted print of their name, in Lentarian dwarf runes, by none other than Mr. Gable himself!

So will I give out any clues to help you out?  I will, if necessary.  If no one is able to determine what the title is then I’ll start “hiding” letters throughout the blog until someone gets the answer.  I will make an announcement if/when I do start hiding letters.  I will say that you shouldn’t forget you already know the first letter of each of the five words.  If you do happen to guess the answer, send me an email (at jmpoole (at) gmail dot come) so others won’t be dissuaded in trying to solve the puzzle.

Have fun and good luck!

Happiest Place on Earth!

Disneyland certainly lives up to its tagline, doesn’t it?   And yes, I’m sure that some of you are now asking yourselves why, as a fully grown adult, am I such a fan of Disneyland?   My wife and I don’t have any kids.  This place is absolutely swarming with screaming children and exasperated parents.   Scents from every conceivable form of junk food assail the senses from all directions, from the moment you step foot in the park to the instant you leave.  So why, then, is it so appealing to me?  The answer to that is simply one word:  nostalgia.

I have visited Disneyland every couple of years or so since I was old enough to walk.  And, based on the photos my mother has shown me, even before then.    I count my lucky stars that Giliane is just as much a Disney fan than I am.  Walking around the parks (Disneyland & California Adventures) at our leisure, perusing through the plethora of shops, and riding our favorite rides.  Over and over, of course.  What does this tell you?  Yep, you guessed it.  You now know what my wife has known ever since she said I do:  I’m a big kid at heart.

Several months ago we discovered/subscribed to a YouTube channel from a group of people that call themselves “Fresh Baked Disney“.  This guy walks around the park, oftentimes with a friend or two, and documents the rides, the food he eats, the merchandise he sees, and so on.  The vast majority of the times he doesn’t have his kid with him, so this is taken from the perspective of an adult who is simply enjoying his experiences at the park.  He typically visits the park every Saturday, so did we find them yesterday?

So, with that said, who out there has been to Disneyland?  What are your favorite rides?  What are your favorite things to do here?  Here’s mine, in no particular order:

    1. Pirates of the Caribbean
    2. Soaring over California
    3. Lunch at Blue Bayou
    4. New Orleans Square (my favorite “land”)
    5. Haunted Mansion
    6. Splash Mountain

I hope you have a fantastic week!  Rest assured my wife and I will be.  Hmmm, I think another ride is calling my name!  Time to see if I can convince/bribe my wife into riding Grizzly River Run.  We can see it from our balcony at the Grand Californian Hotel!  You’ve never experienced the parks until you actually stay at a hotel in the MIDDLE of the park.  We have our own separate entrance to DCA!  How cool is that?   So, I will bid adieu.  We’re off to have some more fun!
