Updates – Tales of Lentari #2

Greetings honorary citizens of Lentari!

I thought I’d give everyone an update on the progress of Something Wyverian This Way Comes (Tales of Lentari #2).  I know there are a lot of authors who write faster than me, and quite honestly, I’m trying to increase my productivity and release books faster than one a year.  I’m getting closer to being able to write full time, but I’m not there yet so I’m still forced to put on my computer technician’s hat and help clients from time to time.

My goal is to write a chapter a week.  I set this goal each and every time I start writing a new book.  Sadly, I’ve yet to keep that timeline and the writing ends up taking forever.  So, with that being said, sorry ’bout that.

What I can tell you with SWtwC is that I’m holding pretty close to the timeline.  I’ve managed to only miss a few deadlines but for the most part, I’ve been maintaining my chapter-a-week goal.  I’ve finished chapter 5 and today I’m going to sketch out the details for chapter 6 in my notebook so I can write it next week.  So what’s going on with the story?  Well, let’s see.  The dragons, along with their helpers, have managed to convince a very reluctant non-ally to join their ranks and help solve the problem at hand.  Trust me when I say the newest participant would rather be doing anything else rather than helping the dragons.  Who is he?  Well, he’s someone you’ve recently met in the previous book!  Does that help or hinder?

I had one of the best turnouts yet for one of my Goodreads giveaways when I put up the first ever copy of Lost City.  Typically I get about 300-400 people vying for a copy with the most ever being a smidge over 700.  This time I had 1000!  I was floored!  I do think I’ll have to put another copy up there and see how it goes!  Let me tell you, it’s a great way to get your book out there!

Did everyone have a great Halloween?  We certainly did.  Bought several bags of candy and only had two kids come to the house.  Never fails.  We always make sure we have plenty of candy and we rarely get more than a few kids.  So why do we buy so much?  ‘Cause we know it won’t go to waste!  I guess that’s one of the drawbacks of living in a small desert resort town where most people are in their late 50s and up.   I still prefer a small town over a big city any day.

Well, I’m off to work on chapter 6.  I hope everyone has a great weekend!  Watch lots of football!  Go Redskins!  (Yeah, I know; they suck right now.)

Lost City Raffle

Wow!  Two raffles going on at the same time!  Gotta love it!

Naturally, the first raffle, print copies of all three books being awarded to the same person, is going on.   But, I also created a page for Lost City on Facebook and promised that once I hit 50 Likes I’ll hold a raffle for a print copy of that book.  Less than a day later we hit 50.  So for that, thank you very much!

Also, I would like to point out that there’s a brand new excerpt from Something Wyverian This Way Comes (Tales of Lentari #2) on the Excerpts page.  Go check it out and let me know what you think!

Have a great day and happy reading!

**UPDATE**

Winner has been selected!  Congrats goes to Christina Carr!  Email me at jmpoole (at) gmail dot com with your mailing addy and I’ll get your book sent off to you.  Thanks to everyone for playing!  And remember – for every 50 Likes on Facebook I’ll create another raffle so help spread the word!

150 Likes! Time for a Raffle!

I’ve been promising it.  I’ve told you guys what needs to happen in order for me to start the raffle and you guys came through!

Thank you!!!

Without further ado, I hereby create my biggest raffle to date:  signed copies of Prophecy (Bakkian Chronicles #1), Insurrection (Bakkian Chronicles #2), and Amulet of Aria (Bakkian Chronicles #3).  They will be awarded to one winner and one winner only!

Want to enter the raffle?  Leave a comment below asking to be entered and tell me which of the books is your favorite.  That’s all!

As many of you know, my fourth book has recently been released.  Lost City (Tales of Lentari #1) isn’t included in the raffle, I’m sorry to say.  Unless…  The magic number is 200.  200 Likes on Facebook and I’ll make this raffle include all four books!

The time frame for this raffle will be through November.  The raffle is over on December 1st.  If we hit 200 Likes by that time then we’ll consider the stretch goal has been achieved and Lost City will also go along to the winner.

So spread the word!  Enter now for your chance to win some fantasy books!  Good luck to all who enter!

Lost City Reviews

Hi everyone!  I hope you’re all having a great weekend!  The weather here in Lake Havasu City, AZ, has turned absolutely fantastic, so I guarantee you I had a wonderful weekend, too!

I’m starting to get some reviews for Lost City, which have been fantastic!  I appreciate it so much when you guys are able to leave a review wherever you bought the book and tell others what you liked (or didn’t like) about the book.   Check these out from Barnes & Noble’s store:

Great read!  Jeffrey Poole is fast becoming one of my favorite authors.  Lost City had me laughing one min and holding my breath the next!”

“Better with each book he writes!  I don’t care how many people Poole has helping him… all of you just keep up the great work!  And for the graphic art, very nice; with the work you guys do I could see a short graphic novel based in Lentari coming soon.  I would like to see some prequels covering the portal being built and related adventures.  Again, thanks for the very enjoyable reads.”

Reviews like that make my day!  If whoever left those two reviews are reading this then you have my eternal thanks!  Nothing makes my day more when I read reviews like those!

The next rafffle is in the works.  Actually, we’re only 6 away from 150 Likes on Facebook!  If we can get to 150 then the raffle for the three signed copies of the Bakkian Chronicles books will be started!  Help spread the word!

Featured on Smashwords!

Mark Coker, founder of Smashwords, wrote a post on his blog extolling the virtues of Apple and their love off Indie authors.  In his post Mr. Coker talks about how Apple has relaunched their Breakout Books promo which again features Indie authors from several different genres.

I made the cut!  I was mentioned by name under the Science Fiction & Fantasy section!  I can’t tell you how exciting that was to see!  Wanting to see for myself, I opened up Apple’s iBookstore and immediately saw the Breakout Books section.  If you click on that and then scroll down until you see the Sci-Fi & Fantasy section, and then scroll to the right to check out the titles in that section, you’ll see my book!  The Prophecy (Bakkian Chronicles #1) has its cover in there!  Woohoo!!!

On an unrelated note, I’ve received my first set of feedback from my beta readers on Lost City…   Let me just say this is why I have beta readers!!  You guys rock!  With any amount of luck I’ll be able to release my fourth book very soon!

How to Name a Dragon

It’s easy.  You have a fantastic legion of fans who love dragons just as much as I do and therefore ask for a little help.

What do I mean?   In case you don’t have facebook I’ll repost the message I put there.  This is what I said:

Is there anyone else out there that loves dragons as much as I do? I have to tell you guys, I’m really enjoying working on a story with dragons as the protagonists!

While waiting to get Lost City into the hands of my Beta Readers, I officially started on the next story in my new Tales of Lentari series. Plot is mapped out and broken into chapters. Writing is underway. Guess what I need again… Yep! More names!

I still have a few dragon names left over from Lost City, but I have a feeling I’ll go through those pretty quick. Got an idea? Want to name a fictional dragon? Tell me your suggestions! Got a description for your dragon? I’ll welcome those, too!

Lost City’s Cover Revealed!

Hello citizens of Lentari!

As promised, I’m posting the updated, full color cover for Lost City (Tales of Lentari #1)!  The same artist that has done all my covers, Rachel aka FalyneVarger, from DeviantArt.com is responsible for this cover as well.  Just like I’ve had Rachel draw all the covers, her husband Richard has been responsible for all title graphics for the books, including Lost City as well.  I don’t know how they do it, but I’m damn glad they do!  They did an awesome job, didn’t they?

Now it’s on to the really hard part.  Book description.  I have to summarize Lost City in just a couple of paragraphs.  Trying to write a synopsis for your own work ranks right up there (for me) as one of the top 5 Least Favorite Activities I have to do.  Emptying the dishwasher and frosting a cake are some of the others, in case you’re interested.  *sigh*   Better get to it!

Beta Readers, check the BR protected thread.  I’ve updated some info in there for you!
